Governor Cuomo Announces New Initiatives to Support NYS Grown & Certified Farmers and Businesses

(July 31, 2018) – Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced several new initiatives to support New York State Grown & Certified participating farms and businesses, and drive consumer demand for New York’s agricultural products. Nearly $500,000 in funding is available for producers and retailers to help offset the cost of new packaging and on-product labeling, as well as in-store signage to increase brand recognition of Grown & Certified products. The New York State Grown & Certified program, first launched by Governor Cuomo in August 2016, promotes New York agricultural producers and growers who adhere to food safety and environmental sustainability standards.

PSC Revokes Charter Merger Agreement

(July 29, 2018) – In a surprise move, the state Public Service Commission announced Friday it’s rescinding its 2016 approval of the merger between Charter/Spectrum and Time Warner Cable.  The PSC cited Charter/Spectrum for failing to show it would make good on the conditions of the merger to upgrade and expand its services for unserved and underserved locations.  The PSC accused Charter/Spectrum of repeated failures to meet deadlines, attempts to skirt obligations to serve rural communities, unsafe practices in the field, failure to fully commit to its obligations under the 2016 merger agreement and the purposeful obfuscation of its performance and compliance obligations to the commission and its customers.

CEDC Issues RFP for Rail Trail Feasibility Study

(July 17, 2018)  – Columbia Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) today issued its Request for Proposals (RFP) to perform consulting work to determine the feasibility of constructing a multi—use Rail Trail connecting Hudson and Philmont in Columbia County.   CEDC is collaborating with Columbia Land Conservancy (CLC) in the development of this feasibility study.  Consulting work will be funded by CEDC with support from a 2017 Hudson River Valley Greenway Trail Grant Program.  The project will be monitored by CLC and the Greenway.   With the release today, proposals to the RFP will be due Friday, August 10, 2018 at 4:00 PM, with RFP questions or clarifications due by August 3, 2018.  CEDC will review and consider all responses submitted and anticipates making an award on August 27, 2018.  The RFP is available on CEDC’s website at www.columbiaedc.com.
